Dear Mom, Dad & All:-

The ads used to say "Join the Navy and See the World",  but I'm still doing pretty well in the Army.  We arrived here this noon (Thursday), having booked a room in advance from New York.  We will be here until tomorrow night and hope to see most of the famous places by then.
We came up to New York last Saturday and had quite a time for ourselves.  We've been to the top of the Empire State Building and all through Radio City.  Also been to High Mass at St. Patrick's and did a bit of shopping for Eve in the big stores.  Eve's aunt has been very sick with a bronchial cold and pleurisy so she and her husband couldn't go around with us.  She was feeling considerably better when we left.  Last night we visited her married son who also lives in Brooklyn and they gave us a nice Pyrex set, a casserole, six custard cups, a retangular baking dish and a deep pie plate.  Not bad, eh?
Tuesday we sent the Humphrey's a cable to tell them the good news about our expected heir which I bet surprised them no end.  Needless to say Eve and I are both quite thrilled and excited over the expected event and Eve's aunt and uncle have had a lot of fun kidding us about it.  She got two rather cute "expandable' dresses, one seersucker and the other just a print dress.  Also got a reversible trench coat like Jerry's.  She weighs 136 lbs now, but as yet her increased weight is unnoticeable.  She's having a nap now (we were up at 5:30 AM) while I write this.  When she awakens we'll go out and start our sightseeing.  I know Franklin's just dying to meet us.
Well, I guess that's all for now.  Just wanted to let you know we were all okay and enjoying our five days of freedom.

Cheerio, Bob.
