Dear Mom, Dad and All:
Received your Easter greeting and the V-mail
containing my baptism certificate. Also Art's V-mail letter.
Thanks to all. Spent Easter with Evelyn and went to Pontifical High
Mass at Westminister Cathedral. Beautiful ceremony. Evelyn
says she looks forward to and really enjoys her instructions from Father
Hathaway twice a week. I bought her a Missal for Easter. Says
she's a Catholic for life, whether or not Jerry drops a bomb on me.
They failed to receive your Easter greeting, as yet, and have received
no mail at all from you. Guess it's just bad luck. It'll probably
all come at once. George wasn't there for Easter but is getting a
new job Saturday as secretary to a Colonel and will be in the same city
with them, so he will get to see them more often. He'll be the best
man at our wedding for sure now. Send any cables about the wedding
to Evelyn. It will be June 5th and Evelyn will wear white satin.
Had a V-mail from the Canes and one from Louis Martin last week.
Both were quite a surprise. Evelyn is going to write to you again
next week. Will also send out the wedding invitations then, too,
utility ones. Evelyn has about as many relatives as I have, too.
I hope you got Evelyn's large portrait I sent about the second of April
by now, and the book for Cathy. She is certainly brilliant for her
age. Hope Mary is okay. Sorry I can't be home for the blessed
event and Gerry's graduation, but the war must go on. I'm still mighty
comfortable and happy here and getting plenty to eat. Just had some
fine vegetable soup for supper and a big cup of cocoa made with milk.
Milk is rationed here, 2-1/2 pints per person per week. Hope you're
getting plenty there. Evelyn and her folks send their best regards
and wish you could be here for the wedding. I sure do, too.
Can't think of anything more, so Cheerio for now.
Love, Bob.
