Dear Mom, dad and all:-

Here's a bit of news I know you'll be glad to hear about, although I've already cabled it.  Last Friday Eve wrote to tell me she was ready to be accepted into the church Sunday (25th) if I could come down again, so I did.  We went down to see Father Hathway Saturday night and it was planned for Sunday afternoon.  George and I sat in the first pew and Eve knelt at a kneeling bench in the center before the communion rail.  There were books with the complete ceremony in Latin and English for us to follow it with.  Father Hathway sat before the altar and read the questions and Eve answered and made the necessary renunciations and promises.  After the conditional baptism they went to the confessional and she made her first confession.  Returning to the altar the Te Deum was read and then Fr. Hathway gave a short talk on the gravity of the step she had taken and counselled her on her obligations. (cont'd)

After the ceremony we went into the Sacristy and the particulars were recorded.  I stayed over until Monday and accompanied Eve when she made her first Communion at the 7:30 AM Mass.  So now she's really a Catholic and very glad to be one.  Fr. Hathway was certainly wonderful about everything and he has won the admiration and respect of all the Humphrey's and their relatives who attended our wedding.  It was the first time I'd seen George in quite a while and he was wearing his three stripes, as I cabled.  He sure looks good and seems to be pretty well satisfied.  I took several pictures of him, he had his camera, too, so you will have them in the near future.  Have you ever received the Wedding pictures I sent.  They were sent around the last part of June, so they ought to have arrived by now.  Guess that's all the news at present so I'll close.  Eve and I are both in good health and so is George.  The weather has finally gotten warm and it's really nice now.

Cheerio, Love,

Thatch
