Dear Mom, Dad & All
This
will give you an idea of what the American Eagle Club is like.
George
& I stayed over for today and attended the London Symphony Concert
this afternoon. It was an all Beethoven Concert and the soloist was
Myra Hess. It was given at Albert Hall. We were fortunate enough
to get two of the six tickets given free to the club.
Spent
the evening with Geo. and two Australian sailors hoisting a few beers at
the New Zealand Club. There were a goodly number of WAAF's and WREN's
(Women's Organizations In Uniform) and some dancing. Didn't take
part in it however.
Just chewed the rag with the
boys. They have about the best club in London.
Had
to spend last night at a private hotel (The Celtic) as we didn't reserve
rooms at the A.E.C. as we didn't expect to stay. However, the long
sight seeing trip made it necessary. Back with our own tonight.
By the
way, the following items are absolutely unobtainable in England so a bit
about once a month would be welcome:-
Milk chocolate
Regent Cigarettes
Crepe Toilet tissue (Unknown)
1 lb. Cans of tobacco (Briggs
or Raleigh) Pipe Cleaners
Packages
must be limited to five lbs. and should be very strongly packed as they
sure knock them around. Send everything to the Eagle Club.
I have
learned that the only certain way to send mail is by air since many letters
are lost from sinkings, so will send this air mail. I learned previously
that it takes about as long as regular mail so haven't used it so far,
but I'm hoping you'll get the letters and cards I sent.
Going
back to Bournemouth tomorrow to await posting to school. Will write
short letters every few days so you'll at least get some of them.
They are held for two weeks in this country before they are released so
they'll be pretty old by the time you get them.
'Bye now.
Bob
